Things to Do:

Kayaking
> Bay If you enjoy being close to wildlife try paddling through the narrow back channels in the wetlands that you crossed arriving into Stone harbor. Blue heron, baby osprey, turtles are some of the many wonderful creatures you will encounter as you paddle the miles of channels and bays. Everyday offers a different view of nature and the surroundings which my family never tires of enjoying.

> Ocean If you crave a little excitement and thrills, remember surfers aren't the only people who celebrate the hurricanes and storms that whip up the waves on the Jersey Shore, kayakers love them also. You can test your surf kayaking skills at any of the beaches before 10 am and after 5 pm. It is wise to wear a life jacket and a helmet when the surf is rough. You can rent equipment at Harbor Outfitters located at 354 96th Street Stone Harbor, NJ

Things to See:

Stone Harbor Point Is a protected conservation area. It is not a beach for swimming, landing your boat for a picnic, or walking your dog. It is a place to enjoy nature walking, fishing, beach combing, and bird watching. When you visiting the Point, please stay out of areas protected for beach-nesting species. You never know what you will see during a visit to the Point. The Point is located at the southern end of Stone Harbor.

When It Rains:

Hereford Inlet Lighthouse (111 N. Central Ave., North Wildwood, 609-522-4520) is a bit newer and fancier. It was built after the Civil War, in 1874, in Victorian style. It has a nifty museum and restoration of the lighthouse keeper's denizen and is an easy climb, only 59 feet to the top. It is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and is $5 for those 12 and over; $2 for 11 and younger.

Cape May Lighthouse Located at the southern tip of the Shore (215 Light House Ave., Cape May Point, 609-224-6066), built in 1857 on the site of an earlier lighthouse from 1823. It is 157 feet high and 199 steps to the top. As part of Cape May Point State Park, it has an interpretive nature center next door. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and the climb up is $10 for adults; $5 for those 3 to 12 and free for those under 3.

Wetlands Institute The Wetlands Institute was founded in 1969 and is a not-for-profit organization promoting appreciation of wetlands and coastal ecosystems.
